Tests a doctor often starts with

Your doctor decides what you need. These are the common first steps.

For her

For example AMH (egg reserve), thyroid (TSH) and prolactin. Some are best done on day 2–3 of the period.

For him

Checks count, movement and shape of sperm. Usually needs 2–5 days of abstinence before.

For her

Looks at the uterus and ovaries; a follicle scan tracks ovulation.
